Very nice and helpful staff, cannot be highlighted properly. Food was delicious. Cabin small with charm and clean. Nice experience has been
We very much enjoyed our Bassac River cruise. The food was amazing and lots of it! The staff were very good as well. We took the cycling trip which was lovely and we also visited a small village and watched basketmaking. The trip on a small tender through the floating market was very interesting but do note this is a wholesale market so very unlike the small floating markets where you can get close-up photographs of people in small boats. The cabin was quite small, but very clean with everything we needed Unfortunately, our cabin was very smelly; there may have been a problem with the drains below the cabin. We did not get a chance to report this to the staff. The views from the two small decks were nice, but there were not many loungers and not enough shade so we ended up sitting on the chairs outside our cabin rather than on the deck with the better views. It would be nice if they could provide bigger awnings for some shade as it was very hot during the day. It was also hot at night, but the cabin air-conditioning worked very well.
We found our cruise on the Bassac 2 very relaxing and enjoyable. Our trip started and finished at Can Tho, known as the capital of the Mekong Delta. We had one night aboard and two excursions on land. The Bassac 2 is a beautiful wooden boat. There were only 12 people aboard. The cabins are small but they make use of every inch of space. There is not room to have a big suitcase but a small cabin bag such as you might take as hand luggage on an aeroplane was fine. The shower in the little bathroom worked very well. The food on the boat was excellent. The Mekong Delta is not a remote jungle location. There is a large population and there is a lot of commercial activity. The branches of the river are used by big barges transporting a lot of goods. Can Tho is a big city. It was interesting to see the contrast between the modern and the traditional. The river itself is polluted. There are plastic bags and bottles, polystyrene food containers, pieces of paper and the rest floating down the river along with the water hyacinths. We boarded at 2pm. In the afternoon we had our first trip ashore where we went for a walk along paths past many different sorts of fruit trees which were identified for us. We were then able to try them in the garden of a private house. We could have chosen a bicycle ride instead. We returned to the boat and continued our journey. The boat stopped at about 9pm after dinner for the night and continued at 6am the following morning. We had a very good nght's sleep in our cabin. After breakfast we changed to a smaller boat to see the famous floating markets. They are wholesale markets where the sellers indicate their wares with samples attached to a tall pole. We later had another excursion, this time to see some basket making, which used to be a major activity in the area. Even if it was put on for tourists it was a very skillful activity and we really enjoyed seeing it. We arrived back in Can Tho at 10 am where we were reunited with our luggage after a very enjoyable trip
Beautiful old style wooden boat with just 12 cabins. Lovely food, friendly staff and interesting excursions. This wax a very restful and worthwhile trip.
We really enjoyed our stay aboard the Bassac. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and spoke good English. The food on board the ship was excellent and the balance between activities and rest time on the ship suited us. The small cabins are cozy and in the small bathroom showering on board is also possible. Consumption can be paid for by credit card. We can highly recommend a trip aboard the Bassac.
A great experience giving numerous insights into life in the Delta. The guide, crew, food & accommodation exceeded our expectations. A great value for money trip. Martin & Nina
We had booked our holiday through trailfinders and they booked us for a one night cruise on the bassac boat for New Year’s Eve. I had made it very clear that we wanted to have a memorable NYE and although the cruise was beautiful it was not a place to enjoy the festivities of ringing in the New Year. The rooms although small were perfect however the air conditioning did not work in one of our cabins it was either set to freezing or off. The food was great however there were 10 on the boat and we 4 out of the 10 went to bed at 8:30 after dinner, leaving my family and a lovely English couple to stay up to ring in the new year. The staff slept in the main galley which was slightly uncomfortable and although the bar stayed open we felt slightly awkward. This is a lovely boat but don’t know if it is suitable for younger people and possibly this should be better highlighted by your operators. The cycle tour through the village and meeting the basket makers were highlights for us just wish it had of been on a different day.
A fantastic experience. The trip through the waterways is totally relaxing. The two stops on land (one a village tour by bike or walking, the other a trip to a different village to see basket making) were both very good. The food and service were both excellent and the drinks reasonably priced. Cabins are tiny but functional and fine was one night (pack accordingly). Highly recommended.
