Placeringen af Maungauika ved indsejlingen til Waitematā-havnen gjorde det til et vigtigt kystforsvar. Det var frygten for en russisk invasion i 1880'erne, der førte til opførelsen af et fort og de tre forsvindende kanonbatterier spredt langs maungaen (bjerget).
Mount Eden er den højeste vulkan blandt Aucklands 52 vulkaner. Den er 196 meter høj. Fra toppen kan du nyde en spektakulær udsigt over byen og dens havne.
Cornwall Park er den største vulkanske park i Auckland. Også en anden park er inde i Cornwall Park, som er "One Tree Hill" Der er mange træer og dyr i denne park. Du kan mærke den store natur inde i byens centrum.
Holy Trinity Cathedral er verdens eneste arkitektoniske eksempel på en stillehavsgotisk katedral. Du kan føle en følelse af storhed og skønhed på én gang. Du kan også se St. Mary Church, som er lavet næsten udelukkende af hjertet Kauri, et New Zealands indfødt tømmer, og er en af de få tømmerkirker i verden bygget i gotisk stil.

Auckland War Memorial Museum er New Zealands første museum. Etableret i 1852 i en toværelses gårdhytte i den centrale Auckland-forstad til Grafton, er Auckland Museum anerkendt for at have nationalt og internationalt betydningsfulde samlinger.

This is actually a review of the half-day tour (see below). Well organized. It includes the highlights that you want to see when you have a short time in Auckland. Tour guide Sean was great. Friendly, accommodating, informative. We booked the full day tour, but the only difference was that was to it include a trip to the War Memorial Museum (ticket NOT included). But the vast majority of the museum happened to be closed that day. But the tour company reimbursed the difference (not including the Viator commission). Kudos to them.

Our tour guide picked us up on time from our hotel. They were exceptionally knowledgeable about local history and culture, and we very generous with their time and expertise. Our guide was amazing! She was punctual & courteous and guided as through the most amazing highlights with great knowledge of each one of them. All of it was just breathtakingly beautiful. The history of Mount Eden & One Tree Hill was very interesting. Our final stop was at the Kew Gardens showcasing a Winter Garden, the Temperate House and the Fernery. We couldn’t have asked for more. The tour was accompanied by a great guide. We never had time pressure and a lot was explained. All described points were approached. There were only two of us on the road with the guide. Finally there was a slideshow of the pictures he took with us, via WhatsApp. Really great!!

Had a blast going around with Lenna, our tour guide, who brought us all around Auckland. She was lovely and when the weather turned bad, she did everything she could to make it comfortable for us. Her charm and humour truly got to us both. She was very knowledgeable about the city, shared her own anecdotes and her own experiences with the city. Highly recommended for those who are looking to get to best bits of Auckland in a relatively quick fashion.
