A superb experience We enjoyed the city and local specialties Calvados.
Place full of emotions that traces the genesis and the Second World War. To do absolutely even and especially with children not to forget
We had planned in spending an hour or two here before moving on, but in the end we spent the best part of a full day in the memorial. The exhibitions are thoughtfully and respectfully displayed with a great attention to detail. We also enjoyed the Cold War exhibition and other temporary photography exhibitions. We stayed so long we ended up having lunch there, which was very pleasant and excellent value for money too. Highly recommend!
The second day of our Normandy trip we visited the Mémorial de Caen, I was here in 1994, and my memory of how they were was not true at all. The museum is big and nice and is itself a monument, but the contents of the large building are mostly information to read about different stages before and during the war. There is not much material or things to look at, so if you already know the history and / or no desire to read about it again, you can skip this, there is much better
Very nice with real images.maybe even with Italian subtitles was not bad.o an audio guide
Visit of the memorial completed by the very exciting circular cinema session. Memorial that tells very well the Normandy landings and that does not leave you indifferent. Well maintained site with breathtaking pieces of history for some. Shivers and emotions guaranteed in tribute to these men sacrificed for the liberation of France.
Interesting insights. The video clips and brief recollections from veterans really bring it to life. Even more impressive are the beautiful views of the bay from the height which allows you to reimagine the whole scene. The monuments here are the real stars of the show. Visually stunning.
Museum really amazing. The Caen Memorial is one of the most beautiful we have visited. Immersion in the Second World War is total, we allow ourselves to be completely transported by the richness of the contents and the emotion that emerges from it. We also enjoyed the retro space, which brings an original touch to the whole. The entrance fee is largely justified. The gardens are superb and perfectly maintained. I recommend 10,000%! Little clarification: the visit can be a little long with young children, to be expected according to their age and patience.
We caught a Public bus out from Caen where we were staying. The Office de Tourisme in Caen is outstanding. Our School French is hideous sadly but all Staff went to great efforts to provide us with Bus info. Easy trips out and back. The Caen Memorial building is modern, spacious and facilities and Staff excellent. The various Halls and Theatres easily accessed and crowds flowed well. It was extremely well done and evocative of the timeline and horror. The World looked on and ignored the visible signs of madness for years. As relevant today as ever. The separate Elevator access to a Bunker was well done too. Lovely garden area. The Gift Shop had a huge Book Store stocked with relevant material. Very upmarket Restaurant. In 2023 we had managed to visit the D Day Beaches whilst staying in beautiful Bayeux but think Caen might be an easier town to Hub in actually for access to all the beaches and other memorials and museums.
Very disappointing. No comment. Just a succession of small movies and pictures. No emotion can be felt considering the way this film is made. I regret my 6 € not counting the 2.50 €/ hour for parking. A real scam
