Bygget til at erstatte et andet marked, revet ned i 1876, blev det åbnet i 1930. Interiøret blev fuldstændig ombygget efter renoveringsarbejde på faciliteterne udført mellem 2010 og 2011.
Projektet for en moderne befæstning til at forsvare denne strækning af den portugisiske kyst går tilbage til det 14. århundrede, med opførelsen af Fort of Santiago do Outão, beregnet til at kontrollere flodens indløb.
Arrábida Natural Park er et biogenetisk reservat beliggende på Setúbal-halvøen, der dækker kommunerne Palmela, Setúbal og Sesimbra, med den højeste højde i Pico do Formosinho (501m højde), i distriktet Setúbal, i Portugal. Den strækker sig 35 kilometer.

After several days of exploring on our own, this was a perfect way to see some new areas while giving our legs a rest. Our guide, Diogo, truly went above and beyond to make this a memorable day for us (including a wine/art tour and finding a handmade tile shop on our way!). He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area, and even tied in the history of the places we visited on the tour with the places we’d already seen to really understand how it all connected! Truly a wonderful day - our only regret was that we booked this near the end of our vacation and couldn’t have him take us on another excursion.

Had a fantastic time on this tour, my parents were super impressed with how knowledgeable our guide was with the area and all the sites were incredible. Would definitely recommend if you have limited time in Setubal to hit the main spots!

This is my second time booking the Arrábida: Setúbal tour with Outing Portugal. This was my cousin's first trip to Portugal, and Diogo planned a wonderful tour of Setúbal for us. Diogo Sampaio gave us the best tour of Setubal 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves to learn the history of on area or have convenient door to door tours of an unfamiliar area. We will be back for another tour very soon!
