We had the most incredible guide for this tour. Sarah was so kind and spent the ride out and back talking to our family about all things Germany as well as any questions we had about the camp. She is so knowledgable. She was very sweet to our teen daughter and talked to her about what she knew about the concentration camps and college opportunites in Germany. She shared some great food recommendations as well. The actual tour was done so well. We were not sure what the tour would be like because it is a sad and difficult historical topic and memorial. Sarah was amazing. She would explain things in an easy and informative way, then let us look at things and be there for questions. She made sure we had a bit of time to talk and process along the way. Our family learned so much and continued talking about the fantastic Sarah throughout our travels through Europe. Thanks you so much. We will never forget this visit.
We had a nice experience, we learned more things about history, this was our second Tour to a concentration camp ( Dachau ) it was very impressive, Lewis our was good.
The trip started meeting our guide Julia at a Starbucks near the station. Julia was a supreme guide, clearly an expert in her knowledge and her delivery across the site was exceptional, I note this as this is not a place for performance but she knew when to bring the group in so as to not need to shout, and show the respect a place like this deserves for the lives that suffered here. The site is incredible and I say that not from a perspective of the horror but for the knowledge that the guide had and the work done to persevere the site.
Our tour guide Benny was amazing, he led us through a very tough tour with grace and patience
Great experience. Sarah walked us through history the best way.
Very cute and knowledgeable guide. Irina was good to tell before we went to the barracks. Could have spent more time at the individual barracks. Otherwise a really good trip.
After reading all the glowing reviews for this tour I am very surprised to be submitting a poor review but there really isn’t any other way to describe this tour. To start with our guide was 10 minutes late arriving at the meeting point when we had arrived 15 minutes early as requested so we were waiting but I think this was due to problems with the train so no big deal. We had a short intro and then got onto the train. No attempt to give any information during the journey. Once we got to the camp our guide took us around the main stops and attempted to explain the material she had in her little blue folder. This was difficult as her first language wasn’t English and she was struggling with the translation as well as not knowing the material, several times she said things that were actually factually incorrect- she told us that the night of the long knives was because the SS carried long knives whereas the SA carried short knives - this is just fiction. She constantly stumbled over the material and resorted to reading it out of her little blue folder. Whenever anyone asked a question she would get on a WhatsApp group with her fellow guides who would get her an answer. We gave up asking after a while and just asked ChatGPT. We wished we had just gone to the camp independently and used the audio guide or just used ChatGPT as our guide. All in all a very disappointing experience. We were expecting a knowledgeable professional guide.
Thank you very much for your review, and we are sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations. We are indeed happy and proud of all our glowing reviews. You are correct that the guide arrived late that day. Unfortunately, there was a medical emergency at a train station, and train services were temporarily suspended at short notice. The guide happened to be on one of the affected trains. We were informed immediately and promptly notified all guests that the guide would unfortunately be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control. All of our guides receive comprehensive training from us. In the case of our tours to the Sachsenhausen Memorial, additional courses conducted by the memorial itself are required in order to obtain a license. All of our guides complete these courses as well. It is true that your guide is not a native English speaker; however, she has been conducting tours in English for many years, has studied at the Goethe-Institut, and has consistently received five-star reviews. Language difficulties have never previously been raised as an issue. We also see it as a positive that she tried to consult colleagues in order to provide answers to guests’ questions that she could not answer right away. Finally, we do not consider the resources you talkes about to be an appropriate source for historical information. This program compiles its responses from a wide range of sources, some of which may be unreliable. For this reason, we prefer to rely on academic research and the official information provided by the Sachsenhausen Memorial, whose experts have studied this topic extensively.
Out of all the things I experienced in Berlin, this was by far the most meaningful activity. The tour was excellent; both in terms of organization and content. Our tour guide Anja was both knowledgeable and allround great, she was able to answer all of the questions we threw at her. The group was small (=the main reason why I chose this operator and not another one), and the pace was just right. 10/10, highly recommend, would definitely do it again!
Worth visiting if you are in Berlin it’s a sombre place and although the weather wasn’t great the guide was. Sarah was excellent, her passion for history and knowledge were second to none and really made the trip! It’s obviously a horrendous place but these places need to be seen to appreciate that and in the hope history never repeats. There was a lot of walking which was absolutely fine, it is obviously quite spread out. The rooms you can enter freely and see lots of detail so to do that you would probably need most of the day, however having a good guide is even better and you still get enough time to look around. There are also audio guides available.
Our guide Sarah was very nice and very attentive - pointed out a lot and answered many questions - even before and after the tour.
