We had this tour booked for over three weeks and I received an email last night saying that it was canceled. Then this morning I received a text saying here are your tickets for today. We got a cab to take us to the central market to meet our person. We text her to let her know we were there and she advised that she had canceled this because she wasn’t feeling well. Viator is not the right place to book when this happens. This happened to us last year in Amsterdam when we had requested a private tour and at the last minute, it got canceled. When these things happen and your left wondering what to do when you only have one day at the city. It’s frustrating. Not sure I’ll use Viator again.

While your guide reached out to us immediately when she fell ill, it appears the cancellation did not sync through to Viator in time. We understand how misleading that must have been, and we are sorry it led you to make your way to the meeting point unnecessarily. This is a known sync issue between our platform and Viator's that we have since then resolved, so that no guest finds themselves in this situation again. We walked through the market and tasted delicious food and wine. Then went to a tapas restaurant for more food and wine.
Silvina is a profesional and tailored the tour to us by asking our individual tastes in food and drink. She is knowledgeable about the history and legends of Alicante’s history. Silvina included the Romans, the Moors and the Spanish. These conquests and the WW2 influenced food supplies available at the time influenced the the textures and tastes of today.
The overall experience was really great. We were glad we had visited the market earlier in the morning so we could get a real ‘feel’ for it as we only visited a few stalls. We were pleasantly surprised at the other places we visited for local food and wine. We were overall disappointed that it was in caps described as a PRIVATE tour and it was actually a small group tour. There were 6 of us total and the other group was from another cruise ship. We felt conversation between guests was lovely but it definitely took away time in learning from our very informative and knowledgeable host Sylvina. She was really good at pivoting and accommodating specific guests needs.
It was a really nice experience. We enjoyed the local tapas and the different wines. Eventhough I thought it would be more tapas and less wine it was worth the booking. Andrea told us many interesting facts about Alicante and the dishes we ate. I recommend!
Booked a private tour with Andrea for my wife and I. Despite it being a local holiday (which we were unaware of) and the central market being shut, Andrea took us to many amazing places for snacks and wine! We had a lovely walk through Alicante with Andrea explaining the history of the city and showing places of interest. Andrea was very friendly and helpful and certainly knows the city and her food and wine. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to see the sights of the city whilst sampling excellent wine and food.

The best way to get to know people is to show you the insider tips of eating. Away from the tourists, in small bars and restaurants that are so inconspicuous that they are easily overlooked. The cuisine away from the mainstream ... local and modern combined. With the perfect story behind the dish, with a wine, vermouth or liqueur... whatever goes with it! You are invited like a friend to dive into a culinary new world! What could be better than listening to a friend's stories over delicious food...
