Highlight for us was watching the salmon run up the creek. The rest of the tour was fair at best. Our tour guide did the best he could with what the tour had to offer. Overall, I would give tour a C and not do it again. Not worth the money.
Excellent tour - small personal vans, great guides with a ton of knowledge. Never felt rushed and saw lots of wildlife!
We had a great tour. Teddy was our guide and he was fantastic! He stopped all through the city to point out buildings and interesting things. The salmon running and the salmon ladder were very cool, herring cove was beautiful. We saw bald eagles, juvenile bald eagles and even a bear! Last stop was the totem poles. All in all a great tour of Ketchikan.
Our tour guide “Hal” showed up in sweats and a little T-shirt that looked like he slept in. It looks like he woke up 15 minutes ago. Drove by the bay in town and encouraged us to look over the water. We might see a whale out there drove us to where some salmon are the outskirts of town. There were two or three in the water. The rest of them were dead and rotting and stinking took us to where there might be some bears no bears because he took us during high tide. Everybody else said bears don’t come down to the bay during high tide. We did see a baby Blacktail deer in somebody’s yard and he turned the van around so we could look at it. Oh boy. He told us if we have any valuables leave them in the van and he’ll lock it. We left our valuables in the van and he didn’t lock it when I reminded him the van was not locked. He said oh that’s OK. We don’t have any crime around here. I highly recommend not going on this excursion ever. Some of the other excursions guide were more appropriately dressed, and we overheard them talking and seemed very, very knowledgeable. Maybe we just didn’t get the best guide, but we were very disappointed.
Went to crowded wildlife overlook with other tour operators and minimal wildlife. Guide would only interact if prompted. Highlight of tour was guide showing us starfish at Rotary Beach. Stop at Saxman Tribal House was disappointing as we were just let out and given minimal directions. Other tour guides with same company were giving narrative tour.
We would have given 5 stars but the entire Bay stop was skipped and merely pointed out. We were supposed to get out and look for whales. I don't understand why we spent time in the neighborhoods of Ketchican which probably ate up our time at the bay, as well as a traffic jam. The tour was for wildlife so important to do the wildlife stops. Our guide was kind and informative but I am finding these tours (not just this company) are increasingly dropping a stop or two and it's frustrating because we came for those, not the neighborhood s. We were lucky to see bears so we were grateful for that but we are increasingly wary of signing up for tours to be honest. We were very disappointed in Juneau too, a different company who also didn't deliver all that was promised.
Leo our tour guide is a Ketchikan native. He was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful! What I loved is he began our trip in the farthest location, herring cove, and worked his way back to town. We saw 5 bear at herring cove and even got pics of them eating salmon. Then at rotary park we got to see and hold a starfish. It was a beautiful stop. We throughly enjoyed our tour and would highly recommend it!
Hal was great fun! He had lots of great stories and took us to wonderful spots to see sea stars, eagles, bears and more!
We were too early for the salmon run and saw a bear in the far distance but walking through the Alaskan woods was wonderful. Side note- between mid May and mid June, the white birch trees put out horrible allergens. Beware!
Not to book through you and definitely do not get Hal as a tour guide! Did not take us to the Salmon Rum, did not take us to the waterfall as our friends did with another guide. This was trip was a total sham and we felt like we donated our money . Shameful!
