Denne 155 meter lange bro er bygget over Katsura-floden og er et af de ikoniske billeder af Arashiyama. Det er et fantastisk sted at nyde det omkringliggende landskab og Arashiyama-bjergene som baggrund.
Dette tempel har en lang historie og er et af de mest berømte zen-templer i hele Kyoto. Det er kendt som et UNESCOs verdensarvssted og har en fantastisk have, hvor planterne og blomsterne giver en anderledes følelse hver sæson.
Denjiro Okochi, en berømt skuespiller fra Samurai-film, brugte omkring 30 år på at bygge denne enorme villahave, som dækker et areal på 19800 kvadratmeter. Haven er omgivet af kirsebærblomster om foråret og efterårsblade om efteråret og byder på skønhed i hver sæson. Udsigten over Hozu-floden, der flyder nedenfor, og byen Kyoto er også et højdepunkt.
Jōjakkoji-templet ligger på bjergsiden af Mt Ogura, som har været berømt for sit efterårsløv siden den sene Heian-periode (794-1185), og har omkring 200 gamle ahorntræer, som bliver røde, orange og gule og kombineres med det grønne i mos.
Et stille tempel omgivet af smukke landskaber, der har overlevet gennem 1200 år. Templet er berømt for sit efterårsløv. Templet kaldes 'Nison-in', fordi det indlejrer de to vigtigste Buddha-billeder. De to hovedbilleder har ansigter og figurer som tvillinger, med deres venstre og højre hånd hævet og sænket symmetrisk. Templet ligger i kort afstand fra det centrale Arashiyama, så du kan nyde et øjebliks ro.
Dette tempel er kendt som et ""tempel for den tragiske kærlighed"". Det var templet, hvor en danserinde, der var begunstiget af tidens kræfter, mistede sin gunst og tilbragte tid som nonne efter et knust hjerte. Templets grund er dækket af smuk grøn bambus og grønne ahorn, med en mos- overdækket have. Vinduet i eremitagens forkammer er også værd at se. Det reflekterer en række forskellige farver afhængigt af, hvordan lyset kommer ind i rummet.
Dette område har været et begravelsessted siden oldtiden, først med vindbegravelse, men senere med jordbegravelse, hvor folk indviede en stenbuddha og sørgede over de dødes evige adskillelse. De omkring 8.000 stenbuddhaer og stupaer, der er nedfældet på grunden, er gravene for mennesker, der er begravet i området.
Oprindelsen af dette tempel kan spores tilbage til det 8. århundrede, men templet blev ubeboet under Anden Verdenskrig og blev forladt efter en tyfon i 1950 forårsagede omfattende skader på tempelområdet, hallerne og buddhistiske statuer, men blev genopbygget i 1955, da den buddhistiske billedhugger Nishimura Kimitomo (1915-2003) blev udnævnt til abbed, og genopbygningen af det mest nedslidte tempel i Kyoto begyndte. Templet er kendt som et "helbredende tempel", hvor besøgende kan slappe af og føle sig godt tilpas med den udtryksfulde række af 1.200 statuer af arhats udskåret af almindelige tilbedere.
Toriimoto er et fredet område beliggende i den fjerne ende af Sagano, som er omkring 600 meter langs Atago Highway, der fører til Atago Shrine. Området har en blanding af bygninger i bondegårdsstil med stråtag og bygninger i machiya-stil med to etager og tegltage, og har en velbevaret karakter af et japansk landhistorisk landskab.

I hope that everyone is lucky enough to get Takashi Okanuma as their tour guide. He was so friendly, informative, funny and told the best stories! He also makes sure everyone has a great time. We were really tired from the days before, and Takashi went out of his way to make sure we were doing the right activities. He even stayed a little longer than our time, because he wanted us to see the parade! He also takes pictures from his own phone, and will send it to you right after the tour. He’s an amazing photographer and knows all the right spots! Takashi really goes above and beyond, and made our day trip to Kyoto very memorable!
Yoshiko, our guide, met us at our hotel for our private morning tour exploring the historic Saga-Toriimoto neighborhood of Arashiyama. As our taxi headed towards our destination, surprise, surprise, the driver informed Yoshiko of the sudden closure that day (all Wednesdays thereafter) of our first stop – Otagi Nenbutsu-ji. Not a problem, a quick pivot, and Yoshiko led us to the hillside site of Adashino Nembutsu ji, a Buddhist memorial ground of 8000 ancient stone grave markers. We followed a bamboo path rising behind the 13-tier pagoda temple — a stunning, contemplative stretch that was blissfully removed from the crowds of the main Arashiyama grove. From there, Yoshiko led us to the tranquil Giōji Temple, guiding us through its serene moss garden while sharing the tragic but tender love story about a spurned dancer who found refuge and became a nun. Our unhurried walk continued down the road with quaint shops interspersed with charming old homes with private gardens arriving at a small local restaurant where we enjoyed a quiet lunch with set meals that were both delicious and beautifully presented. Yoshiko’s English was excellent, making everything feel effortless and engaging, and she sprinkled the day with stories from her own time living abroad, including heart-warming anecdotes about her family. Those personal touches made the entire experience feel even more special and connected. We’re so grateful for the time we spent with her. My family and I booked this tour with our guide Eric we had a four hour tour from 11 to 3 PM. It was a fabuloustour and Eric is a fabulous guide we saw and learned so much about Kyoto. It’s history. It’s temples it’s food and more Eric was very to all of us and gave us so much good advice about what we were seeing and about where to go. An amazing place... such a shame that mass tourism has taken over. Visited in mid afternoon but still rammed. Reports of peoples initials being carved in to the bamboo! Would suggest visiting in early morning or late afternoon, when tour groups have diminished. A lot of tourist tat shops and the start of the forest walk is a 15 minute hike from the car and coach parks.

Our tour guide Mika was great. She created a route based on what we wanted to see and had great recommendations. It was our first time in Kyoto and we only had a day, so this was a good way to see a lot of stuff without having to do all the planning ourselves.
