This library is a great interactive look into Nixon’s personal life and presidency. Information is presented in an easy to read format with great visuals. The addition of “sound bites” between Nixon and dignitaries or his daughter were delightful. Nixon was so much more than Watergate. His accomplishments are still impacting lives today. The opening film was a great introduction and his closing film brought tears to my eyes. I wasn’t aware of his influence on the next 4 to 5 presidents. His foreign policy took us from war to talks. Added bonus, his birthplace and childhood home. You must go see!
Visited the library for the first time this past weekend for a family member’s wedding. The venue itself is beautiful, but the overall experience was very disappointing, to say the least. The security staff was unprofessional, overly aggressive, and unwelcoming in their interactions with guests. Instead of feeling like a celebratory environment, the atmosphere often felt tense and uncomfortable due to the way guests were addressed and managed. Several guests observed inconsistent enforcement of rules, raising concerns about fairness in how policies were applied. Multiple attendees also reported differing treatment of minority guests, particularly Hispanic guests, based on both firsthand and secondhand accounts. Overall, while the setting is impressive, the guest experience fell well below expectations due to the behavior of staff on site. To those responsible for operations at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum: This is an area that requires serious review and improvement, particularly in staff conduct and guest relations.

Having toured all 16 U.S. presidential libraries, I find Nixon’s quite remarkable! We’ve enjoyed free Sunday concerts there in the theater, walked throughout the grounds and the indoor museum, and marveled at the care with which his life story and impact were eloquently documented and coordinated. This is one of the few places where a presidential birthplace and burial site are both on the same grounds. Amidst a gorgeous reflecting pool, rose garden, and the palm trees typical of Southern California, Richard Nixon and his wife are buried about 50 feet from his birth home. The house lies in its original footprint when Francis Nixon built the modest house on a rural citrus ranch in 1912. It’s perfectly preserved in the middle of a busy suburban setting today, included in the tour. Surprises within the sprawling complex include a replica of the living room at the Nixon’s beach house in San Clemente, a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, a chunk of the Berlin Wall, and oil from Saudi Arabia’s first oil well. There are countless other artifacts! Best of all, you might enter the museum thinking of Nixon as scandalous, a Republican who became America’s only president to resign. But you’ll leave with a deep understanding of, and appreciation for, the impact Nixon had on abolishing the military draft, developing relations with China, and signing legislation that would advance women’s sports, protect countries against nuclear war, desegregate southern schools, protect the environment, and even initiate the end of the Cold War.
I absolutely loved the Nixon Museum & the garden that leads to the helicopter! ♥️
Stayed for 4.5 hours excellent experience. Great reminders of all the positive bills that were passed during his administration
Highly recommended, it’s been on my to-do list and as a California native who travels to LA quite a bit, it was never a priority, but I wish I had gone sooner because I learned a lot. Everything was so well done and put together, the museum and the information presented was very cohesive and also engaging with some interactive displays. There’s the museum, but also his birthplace/childhood home and a marine one helicopter. There was a lot but it left me wanting to leave even more.
The museum’s public displays provide a useful overview of Nixon’s life and his presidency. I thought the material on watergate could do with some updating based on recent research. The home he was born in is on-site. The tour of the home is highly recommended. Nixon’s gravesite is near the home. The gift shop is very interesting, with books and original campaign buttons.
Average time here: 2.5-3 hrs. My friend and I spent double that - it is that good and informative. Honest exhibits to include the Watergate story. We liked it better than Reagan.
We started going to presidential libraries after visiting LBJ's and realizing how great museums they were. This one is no exception: very interesting and full of great information, archival pieces, and knowledgeable/passionate docents. The grounds themselves are pristine. Strongly recommend for anybody to visit.
the library/museum is really well done. No matter what you thought of Nixon you will enjoy seeing this history of him and his terms of government service.
