Camino Ways arranged my 8 nights from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela starting May 15, 2026. I opted for their SUPERIOR category of hotels, which they only booked me ONE night out of eight nights in a SUPERIOR room, but they charged me for all 8 as superior. The remaining 7 nights were in their country cottages, which are less expensive, but they charged me for all 8 nights as though it was SUPERIOR. When I contacted them about this, they said that this was the best available in Galicia. Of course, they did not return any money to me. Also, when you stay at country cottages, given that they are out of town, you are subject to someone picking you up and dropping you off, so you are not independent. I felt that Camino Ways was not transparent about the difference in price between COUNTRY COTTAGES and the SUPERIOR category, or else they would have disclosed this difference and returned money. I recently did a search and for 7 nights on a superior room they charge 1,684 EUR versus 7 nights in a Country Cottage which is priced at 1,405 EUR, so REALLY deceptive. Lastly, on the last two days of my trip, they were less than transparent about the walk, telling me that the distances as you approached Santiago became a little murky- when I pointed out that both the Michelin guide as well as Google said the distance between two points was 10 km, they argued with me and stated that it was 3 to 4 km. In the end, they agreed, but it was annoying.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience Carolina.Thank you for taking the time to share your experience Carolina. We're genuinely sorry to hear the trip didn't meet your expectations, particularly when the Camino is such a special journey. We'd like to shed some light on how our Superior Collection works, as we clearly could have done a better job explaining this upfront. Our Superior Collection is not a room category within a hotel — it's a curated selection of high-quality properties that includes both hotels and charming country cottages. In Galicia, some of the most beautiful and characterful places to stay are boutique rural properties and these feature in our Superior Collection based on their quality and experience rather than their property type. You can find full details here: https://caminoways.com/camino-superior-hotels-collection Regarding the bed configuration, we're sorry your preference wasn't communicated to the properties as it should have been, this is something we will look into directly with the hotels involved. On the walking distances, we apologise for any confusion caused. We always want our pilgrims to feel confident and well-informed on the trail and we should have handled that exchange better. We would genuinely love the opportunity to look into your booking in more detail and address your concerns properly. Please do reach out to us directly at info@caminoways.com
We had a faultless experience with Camino Ways. Everything from accommodation, meals and baggage transfer between hotels. A fantastic walking experience from Sarria to Santiago, meeting so many lovely people from all different nationalities which really made the experience feel special.
Thank you for sharing this Paul, it really means a lot to us! The Camino has a wonderful way of bringing people together and we're so glad you felt that magic. Hope to see you on the trail again someday!
I'm so glad we chose CaminoWays to help us plan our Camino. We were 8 family members, so coordinating the lodging was a big job. The places that CaminoWays selected were really great. They all had wonderful customer service and really great food. While they were usually a bit out of the way (outside of the major towns), that added to their charm. One thing, be prepared for no air conditioning. We had asked for that in our lodgings but we realized that AC just doesn't exist in the majority of places on the Camino. And really, except for one night, we really didn't need it. One other thing, I do hope they implement a dedicated app in the future. It will make getting info about the different guest houses out to a larger group easier. If we do another Camino, I would definitely choose CaminoWays to help plan it.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We are delighted that you chose CaminoWays for your family pilgrimage and that all eight of you enjoyed it. Coordinating lodging for a group that size is no small task, so it means a great deal to hear that the accommodation, the customer service and the food all lived up to the occasion. Thank you, too, for the honest note on air conditioning. It is exactly as you found, AC is still a rarity in much of rural Galicia and we always try to set expectations around that. We are glad it only really mattered for the one night. Your suggestion about a dedicated app is genuinely appreciated. It would be a joy to help you plan your next Camino whenever the trail calls again!
great hotels prompt pick ups and drop offs
Thanks a lot! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Camino Francés experience from Sarria to Santiago. It is wonderful to know that the hotels met your expectations and that the transfers were prompt and smooth and we are pleased everything ran seamlessly for you. Thank you for choosing CaminoWays.com. We wish you safe travels and hope to welcome you back on the Way again soon!
The final day bags were sent to the wrong hotel. We were able to track the whereabouts of the luggage using our AirTag, get a taxi (no compensation from Camino Ways 50 euros) retrieve it and get back to our hotel before Camino Ways made a move. Next morning, the scheduled driver never came so we needed to hire our own cab to get to the train station ( once again no compensation).
Dear Bruce, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced at the end of your Camino. We completely understand your frustration and we're truly sorry that the final stretch of your journey did not meet the standard we strive for. Regarding your luggage, we have since learned that one of your bags was taken by mistake and unfortunately our transfer provider did not notify us at the time. As soon as your husband contacted us, our team immediately attempted to reach you to arrange the recovery, but we were unable to get through. By the time we were coordinating an alternative transfer, you had already set off to collect the bag yourself. We're truly sorry for the worry this caused. We did request the taxi receipt so we could process a refund, but as it was not kept, we are regretfully unable to reimburse that particular journey. As for the missing morning transfer to the station, we have confirmed the situation with the driver, who has acknowledged that the service was not provided. Our team will be in touch shortly to arrange the corresponding refund for that transfer. We genuinely value your feedback, as it helps us improve, and we would welcome the opportunity to make things right. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly so we can follow up personally.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear you had a fantastic experience from start to finish and that all came together seamlessly. The Camino Francés from Sarria really is special. We'd love to welcome you back for another route whenever you're ready. ¡Buen Camino!
We walked Sarria-Santiago c. 120km over 3 days, i.e. c 40km per day. Myself (73), my daugher (46), my daugher's friend (46), and her husband (55). Myself and my daughter completed. Our male companion got bad foot, and thigh blisters, and did not do the final day, he and his wife took the oppurtunity to explore Santiago as they had a 6am flight the next day. We wanted to complete a minimum 100km, and only had the 3 days available in which to do it. On reflection I think that 40km per day is too long, and I think that 18km-20km is the sweet spot, 25km at a push. The last 10km of the 1st day c. 37km staring from Sarria was very tough for me (73) as it was all uphill, but all got better the following days, with the last day being the most enjoyable 39km, not too many hills, with one 30 min break at 25km. All in all, particularly when reflecting on it, and looking at the photos, for me it was a very emotional trip spending all that exclusive time with my daughter. My daughter had recently run a half marathon in just under 2 hours, and was very fit. I hadn't walked in the previous week, and my normal walk distance is 5.5km 4 times per week. My daughter took care of everything, flights, bookings, passports, meds, supplements, anti blister powderss etc. which left me completely responsibility free. A great experience.
What a beautiful reflection, thank you so much for sharing it. Walking 120km from Sarria to Santiago in just three days at 73 is no small feat and to do it alongside your daughter makes it all the more special. We're sorry to hear about your companion's blisters but it sounds like everyone made the most of the trip in their own way. Those shared kilometres and the time together are exactly what makes the Camino unforgettable. We'd be honoured to welcome you back for another route whenever you're ready. ¡Buen Camino!

We walked the last 113km and it was arranged as a fund raising charity event. Caminoways were amazing! Everything was perfect. Guides great, hotels suburb. I had to book an extra bag and called the emergency no. Responded quickly and sorted within 15 mins. Everything was super simple from my end.

From the minute we arrived in Spain to the drop off at the airport for our return flight home, the whole trip ran seamlessly. The hotels were spotless and spacious, and the monastery for our two nights in Santiago was absolutely beautiful. Our bags were transferred without delay and were waiting for us when we arrived. The pre departure information from Camino Ways was very informative and helpful. Thank you Camino Ways for allowing us to enjoy our pilgrimage along the spectacular St James way.
Thanks so much for your feedback! We’re so happy to hear your Camino from Sarria to Santiago went so smoothly and that you enjoyed the hotels, especially the beautiful monastery in Santiago. We hope to welcome you back for another Camino soon!
