Our guides, Paul, Anthony, Gerry, John, Andrew, Patrick and Norman were wonderful and knowledgeable. They cared for us very well.
We were on the Emerald Pullman Train Tour for 8 days! We were on & off the train thru that time! Our stay at the Abbey Glen Castle was a wonderful surprise!! I would recommend this tour to family members and my friends!! This trip would be a great gift or anniversary present!!! It was a well organized and fun experience!!!!

We had a unforgettable 6 day All Ireland Tour with a knowledgeable tour guide (Paul ONeill) . Paul went beyond facts to create engaging, memorable experiences. He was a, problem solver when needed, always available to chat individually if we had questions and overall a great host! He built community among the group through fun facts and humor while always ensuring safety, seamless logistics, and personalized touches that allowed us to relax and immerse in the beauty of Ireland. It was a 5 ⭐️ Experience!
Hello Trudy, Thank you very much for your glowing review! We are absolutely delighted to hear that you enjoyed our All Ireland Tour, and that Paul was an excellent host. Your kind words are much appreciated and have been passed on. We hope to welcome you back on tour with us on your next trip to Ireland! Kind regards, The Railtours Ireland Team
We actually did the 7 day/overnight tour that included Belfast. The hotel accommodations were fantastic! The tours themselves were great and had enough time at each stop. It was a nice experience with different guides that knew the areas well and shared their knowledge. Norm was great with recommendations in Killarney!! Anthony in Galway really went above the call of duty when I accidentally left a backpack at the hotel. He ran to the hotel and brought it to me on the train before it departed. Couldn’t have thanked him enough!!
Dear jbhaupts1996, Thank you for your 4* review. We are glad you had a pleasant tour, that the accommodations were fantastic, and that our hosts, particularly Norman and Anthony, were truly hospitable. We are also glad you were reunited with your belongings because of Anthony's kindness. Again, thanks for the 4* review. Kind regards, The Railtours Ireland First Class
Great experience, a little of everything. Tour guide Peter was organized, informative, went overboard to make everyone feel cared for and very funny . Would take another tour with this company Finding
We returned from the rail tours Ireland excursion yesterday and I write that it is highly recommended. If you are interested in the people of Ireland or in the history of Ireland, this is the trip for you. For eight days on on a fun 20th century Pullman car train. It was a great overview of both. The coach/bus side trips however were uncomfortable for me as the bus was too small for my 6‘3“ frame, but that is pretty standard.
This is the real deal - the best and most friendly hospitality anywhere! Well planned, and no detail missed. Excellent informed and passionate guides. Hotels were outstanding with charm, and were very well located. It exceeded our expectations. The Emerald Pullman train is a treat and the staff are a treasure.
We did the 6 day tour in May 2025 and had a fabulous time. Bryan and John were excellent guides with tons of information to share on our journeys. They made it fun. Joe and Jerry were also very pleasant as our liaisons between train to hotels. The hotels selected for us in Dublin, Killarney, and Galway were very good with great morning breakfasts. (they would also provide breakfasts to go when we had to be on our way very early in the morning). There was a lot of transfers from trains to buses to taxis to your next hotel and Railtours did a fabulous job in making it seamless. We very much appreciate their efforts.
Do not be fooled by the title of this tour. There is nothing First Class about it, apart from the hotels which are generally 4 star. It is essentially a coach tour using standard tourist coaches. The only train involvement was from Dublin to Cork then Galway to Dublin. Later, the + part involved a train to Belfast from Dublin and back. Your train seats are reserved, but very much in crowded ordinary carriages. Every day those doing multi- day tours are bussed to a hub to be joined on the coach by day trippers. This leads to a great deal of hanging around and speel repetition by the tour guide. For the first three days our guide, a history buff, took every opportunity possible to expound on the wickedness of the English in the Irish story, even going so far as to compare them to the present Israeli actions against the Palestinians, and stressing that the English were like this everywhere they went. His venom reduced when confronted, and he did make a small apology at gratuity time. This tour is very expensive and not good value for money. If you are British, I suggest you give it a miss. The country is fascinating and beautiful, but please find a better way of exploring it.
Thank you for your feedback. Strange review considering you gave the tour guide a big hug and a large tip.
Pros: • Went to all promised destinations. Ireland is a beautiful county and the selected destinations were great! • Hotels were high-quality • Tours largely departed and arrived on time Cons: • Several days had little hosting/guidance. For Day 4 to Aran Islands, a Railtours rep led us to a shuttle bus stop in downtown Galway, but did not accompany us further. We were on our own to figure out how to board the ferry after the shuttle bus dropped us off at ferry terminal, and how to find the tour operator on the island (who was just a random guy in an unmarked van). This was not terribly difficult, at least for English speakers, but can hardly be considered a fully hosted tour. • Day 5 of the 9-day tour consisted of being transported from Galway to Clifton at 10am and dropped at the hotel in Clifton at 1pm, after stopping only for 2 quick photos along the way. That was the day, 3 hours. The hotel of course did not have a room ready at 1pm. We walked ~1 km into the town of Clifton for lunch, but there is not much else there. We should have been able to visit Kylemore Abbey that day, but it was scheduled for the following day so was not allowed. • Itineraries were generic and thus missing important details. I requested details numerous times and typically only received generic information. For example, except for one time, we were not told in advance when a given day's tour was outsourced to another tour operator so we never knew what to expect. Frustrated with the generic email responses, I called Railtours from Clifton and spoke to a very patient man who said he would ensure details would be provided for the next day’s tour. This did occur, and it was the one time the itinerary was of high quality. Railtours also upgraded our room for some of the remaining nights, presumably due to my call. • Of the 9 days on the tour, Railtours outsourced the tours on 5 of the days and 2 more days were completely “on our own”. Railtours conducted guided tours only on Days 1 and 3, and a part of Day 8. They did provide a representative to meet us in the mornings and get us on the other company’s bus on 4 of the 5 outsourced days; the duration of this assistance varied from 30 minutes to 2 ½ hours. • Luggage handling was a major issue. The guest is responsible for getting luggage to/from hotel and bus/train. One example: After getting dropped off from a bus at the center of Galway, guest must drag their luggage to the Galway Train Station, a few city blocks away. While this may seem like a minor point, luggage to support a 2-week international trip is not small nor light for most travelers. I would have liked to be prepared for this, but we didn't know because the itinerary lacked detail. A simple statement like “You will bring your luggage to the train station, where it will be stored awaiting departure time” would have gone a long way.
