Sarnath er beliggende i en afstand af 10 km fra Varanasi let tilgængeligt med ethvert transportmiddel. Dette er et af de helligste buddhistiske steder i verden, Sarnath berømt som stedet, hvor Gautama Buddha holdt sin første prædiken. Sarnath var en berømt skole for læring fra det 6. århundrede f.Kr. til det 12. århundrede e.Kr. Besøg ruinerne, stupaen, det buddhistiske tempel og museet. På museet er Ashok-søjlen med sine fire skytsløver, der bruges som selvstændigt Indiens nationale emblem. Mulagandhakuti Vihara buddhisttemplet i Sarnath er et af templerne bygget af Sri Lankas Mahabodhi Society i 1931. Det er stedet, hvor Lord Buddha havde tilbragt sin første regntid. Væggene i dette tempel har smukke fresker, der skildrer Buddhas liv. Det er det mest hellige sted for folk med buddhistisk religion, da Lord Buddha havde opnået sin oplysning her under træet. Such an amazing tour! The tour guide was informative, funny, and considerate (always choosing shade when it was 43 degrees outside). He was so easy to understand and told everything in a clear and memorable way. For me, it was really special to hear the story of Buddhism in the country it was founded - despite it being less observed in the country today.

Brilliant guided walk around Sarnath. Our guide was able to explain the complexity of Buddism, very clearly and succinctly, he was relaxed and humorous and made the walk seem like 5 minutes. He was very knowledgeable about the subject and happy to discuss any subject relating to Indian culture and beliefs. I would highly recommend the company.
