To start: A nine hour car journey from our hotel the Jazz Elite Casa del mar in Hurghada to ……well tbh our driver wasn’t sure, and the itinerary said Luxor, so in the event we went to Aswan. Two stops, the 1st not too bad, and not a bad coffee, the second, well to call it medieval would be a disservice to the period, the condition of the toilets I used forever burned into my memory……filthy place. My wife and I however, arrived at the Jamila, the liner for our Nile cruise, tired but intact. The condition of the cabin was again relatively poor. A TV that worked intermittently, a leaking shower tray, leaking Air con that soaked the floor (we had to leave a bucket under the vent) , 2 sockets not working, and a lamp shade not working. Restaurant was so-so, staff excellent and friendly. The visits we made, to the Aswan high dam the Philea, kom Ombo, Edfu, Luxor, and Karnak temples were very good, instructive and over all enjoyable. The Valley of the Kings was a must-do, but there is a hidden charge for the visit to King Tutankhamens tomb. ($50) the tour rounded off with a meal at the Howard Carter restaurant and Queen Hatshepsuts mausoleum and the Colossai of Memnon. A special shout out to our 2nd tour guide, Mr Hosnay. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I’d also like to take this opportunity to warn people considering this trip, to be mindful of the never ending hard sell traders, who will charge you money for anything from using the toilet to a photo. My wife was even hassled for money for a piece of cardboard (to be used as a make shift fan) in one of the tombs in the valley of the kings. A firm no is advised, along with a lack of eye contact. There is also an abundance of litter, especially in Aswan. The trip was rounded off with a hidden charge (courtesy of reflections travel) for $100, for a return journey to our hotel from Luxor, strangely included in the original itinerary as part of the overall package. Also the cruise down the Nile was enjoyable within itself. Sorry Viator….. overall I think you let us down.
