We booked multiple excursions through Get to Know Belize and are so glad we did. We were also glad to support a locally owned company where every guide seemed to know and wave/greet everyone in town; really speaks to the culture and warmth of Hopkins. All guides were very timely for arrival and drop off, as well as courteous and friendly. Birding with Dirk and Shane was such a treat—Dirk is extremely knowledgeable and it’s always fun spending time with a guide who clearly loves what he does. Alden shared knowledge of the local landscape and wildlife with us during our hike, and provided transport to/from zip lining. Richie and Lenox showed us the best time on and in the water for full-day snorkeling, complete with a freshly caught lunch of lobster, crab, and grouper. We even got to spend time on a gorgeous private island for lunch. Dirk was so knowledgeable and friendly! We had a great time and learned a lot about the native birds!

This was so fun! We saw so many different types of birds and learned interesting facts about them and about the town and culture. It was also nice being driven around in AC, we did a little walking to find birds but never got too hot. Dirk was very knowledgeable and funny. Highly recommend!

Dirk was an excellent bird guide able to spot a wide variety of birds as we toured the area. His knowledge of birds was excellent, evident from spending substantial time with the Audubon Society. He also had a lot of historical knowledge of the area and made our birding adventure a great experience.

Our guide, Dirk, had previously worked for the Audubon Society, and had an expert's knowledge of Belizean birds. This made for an excellent guided tour, and he was able to constantly point out birds that we probably wouldn't have seen on our own. The highlight was seeing and hearing several toucans and parrots. Dirk was great company, constantly informative about local culture, politics, and history, as well as being very lighthearted and funny. He apparently knows everybody in town, and greeted and waved to several locals as we drove around. This tour was the highlight of our visit.

Dirk is extraordinary. You are getting a real treat because not only is Dirk a guide, he’s an experienced conservationist and former Audubon Belize employee. He’s a community leader, participating in community planning and emergency response. I learned so much from Dirk, about birds, hydrology, conservation policy, and the importance of being good to your neighbors. Cannot recommend Dirk more highly.
