Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the food and service, but we’re sorry the steep boarding ramp and limited visibility after sunset detracted from your experience. The ramp to the vessel can be quite steep, particularly in September when the river level is typically at its lowest. This year, the river has been at historic lows, making the incline even more challenging. When needed, our Wheelchair Caddy allows our crew to safely assist guests up and down the ramp when requested. We also understand your point about the lighting. We’ll share your suggestion about dimming the onboard lights with our management team as that is a great suggestion as we head into the darker part of the season. We hope you’ll consider joining us again during daylight hours, when you can better enjoy the scenery along the river.

We would like to clarify that since you booked through Viator and not directly through Portland Spirit, you may see more emails as Viator sends a number of reminder emails. However, we only send a confirmation email and one upgrade email when you book direct on portlandspirit.com. We understand that once it gets dark, the scenery can be difficult to see along the more residential portions of the river. As we return toward downtown, however, guests can enjoy the city lights and illuminated bridges, which offer a different perspective of Portland at night. We’re also sorry the chilly weather made it difficult to enjoy the outdoor decks. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our management team as we continue looking for ways to improve the guest experience. We also offer narration through an app on your own phone, which allows you to listen from the indoor dining area, without disturbing other guests. However, for those that forget headphones, we do have a ipod or written narration you can check-out from your server or cruise manager. We hope to welcome you aboard again on a sunnier day!
