We should have been refunded our money. We got there and the seaweed was so bad which I know can’t be helped, but out beach break wasn’t that at all. Then when we left early, we were asked to go in and settle our tab, and we had already paid online in full. When we went in, they asked for a tip. My husband had already tipped the waiter!

This is a natural, seasonal event across the Caribbean that appears quickly when the ocean warms, and although our team works hard to clear it each morning, some days nature wins. The package you selected was our Basic option, which includes a fixed set of food and drinks. Any orders beyond that set are charged separately, so the cashier was only trying to settle those extras. We’ll double-check that our package details are crystal clear before guests arrive. We also apologize if you felt pressured for another tip—gratuities are always optional, and we’ll remind our staff to keep it that way. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We were not happy at all. Taxi driver got lost, and had to ask the local for direction. Then he dropped us off at the wrong place. We had to walk four blocks in the pouring rain in a very shady neighborhood. I definitely would not recommend doing this excursion, Area does not appear safe, and apparently they use unqualified taxi drivers to get you there. Walking four blocks in a rundown area, and a small village in Mexico does not make me feel safe, my wife was absolutely terrified. The hotel that had the food and drink package, and the beach area was OK. Nothing special, drink selection was extremely limited as well.

Regarding the taxi service, all drivers are part of a recognized taxi union, authorized to pick up guests at the port. We assure you that our visitors safety and comfort are our top priorities. Costa Maya is one of the safest and most important ports in the Caribbean, frequented by major cruise lines. It's a charming, small fishermen village keen on preserving its quaint and safe atmosphere, ideal for visitors and locals alike. This was not a “premium” beach break by any stretch! Water was smelly and full of weeds and local stray dogs. They were filling in areas with smelly rotting seaweed right next to us that were caused by a storm the night before. This should have been done hours before we got there. The cab driver was rude and never came back to get us. The one star is for the food and staff. If it wasn’t for the staff we would still be there! Good people. Not a good beach. Stay away.

We would like to clarify that the sargassum seaweed is a natural phenomenon in the Caribbean region during this time of the year and our team makes a great effort to clean the beach every morning to welcome guests. We assure you that it is not harmful to humans. Additionally, we would like to clarify that the local stray dogs you mentioned are friendly and accustomed to hanging out with people at the beach. Most of them belong to our frequent beach club guests and are treated with care and love by our staff. However, we understand that their presence may have caused discomfort to some of our guests and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Regarding the incident with the cab driver, we are sorry to hear that his attitude was not up to our usual high standards. We assure you that we will be addressing this with him to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. This was a great easy trip for us. We received update emails letting us know about our transportation to and from the beach before leaving on our cruise. Everything as far as communication and pick up at the port was just as advertised. I received text messages about 2 days prior. I would recommend downloading the WhatsApp as they asked me to do that for communicating better. They texted me a map of how to get from where the ship docked at the port all the way thru the shopping area of the port to where the taxi would pick us up just outside the main gate. They also sent several photos of the path we would take so we would know exactly where where needed to go. We were met by Ruth and as advertised she was there with our name on a board. They even had the specific taxi number that we would take sent to us on WhatsApp. It was about a 10 minute drive to get there and the driver pulled up and dropped us off approx 40 feet from the Beach Club Malecón21. The beach area that is a part of the Malecón is small, maybe 100 feet wide but there were plenty of chairs and tables and space both shaded and in direct sun. We had the Platinum Beach break and the drinks were good and the service was quick. We never had to ask for a refill as our waiter was Johnny-on-the-spot and kept us hydrated. Now if you are looking for somewhere to take your kids to have a large beach area for them to play on this is NOT the place. The distance between the waters edge and the first row of chairs was only a few feet. This is a place to more sit back and relax and enjoy the sun and water. Our food was surprisingly fantastic. We have to recommend the Octopus Carpaccio and the Tuna Tartare as appetizers and they were GREAT!! We also had the lobster and it was good. It was nice having the bathrooms only short 30 second walk from where we sat on the beach. Later in the day a rain squall blew in and the staff was quick to come and help everyone get their things inside Malecón21. They verified with us what time we needed to be back at the ship and already had our taxi standing by for us when we were ready to go. All in all it was easy and as advertised. I would recommend this to family and friends looking for a similar type of day.

First, ease of booking and great communication from Viator and taxi company. Gabriel was a fabulous driver and so helpful. The food at Malecon 21 was gourmet and delicious! All of the staff was gracious, Eric our waiter was very attentive. The beach was a disappointment for swimming. Lovely area to stroll around near the hotel and we felt very safe.

What a great location. Perfect spot to enjoy great food and drinks! The service is fantastic, the food surprised me… We had Tacos Caribe, fish filet, hamburger supreme and the vegan burger and everything was delicious!! Congrats We’ll be back in January!!!

Me and my husband had an incredible time! I was a little unsure because of the cost but it was definately worth it, i would do it again every time! Service and quality was outstanding! We had an incredible time and felt like we were in a movie, everything was perfect and beyond our expectations!
